1.2 Census – conducted every ten years, is a periodic enumeration of all barangays and households. It provides benchmark data as well as sampling frame for intercensal surveys.
1.3 Surveys – cover only sample barangays and households. The schedules of conduct of surveys vary depending on the needs for the indicators and on the statistical programs of the government.
1.3.1 Labor Force Survey (LFS)
-- a nationwide quarterly survey (done on the months of January, April, July and October) conducted by the NSO, to gather data on the employment characteristics of the population.
-- the reference period used in the survey is the past seven (7) days preceding the date of interview of the enumerator.
1.3.2 Survey on Overseas Filipinos (SOF)
an annual survey, done as a rider-survey to the October LFS, which aims to provide national estimates on the number of Overseas Filipino Workers, their socio-economic characteristics and the amount and mode of remittances, in cash and in kind, received by their families.
1.3.3 Family Income and Expenditures Survey (FIES)
-- a survey done every three years (most recent was in 2009), which aims to:
(a) gather data on family income and family living expenditure and related information affecting income and expenditure levels and patterns in the Philippines;
(b) determine the sources of income and income distribution, levels of living and spending patterns, and the degree of inequality among families;
© provide benchmark information to update the weights in the estimation of consumer price index (CPI); and,
(d) to provide inputs in the estimation of the country’s poverty threshold and incidence.
1.3.4 Annual Poverty Indicators Survey (APIS)
n a nationwide survey, done in the years when FIES is not conducted, designed to provide information on the different non-income indicators related to poverty at the national and regional levels
n this survey aimed to supplement the integrated poverty monitoring system by providing access and impact indicators.
n Specifically, it generates indicators which are correlated with poverty, such as indicators regarding the ownership or possession of house and lot, the types of materials of the roofs and walls of the housing units, their access to safe water, the types of toilet facility they use in their homes, and presence of family members of specified characteristics such as children 6-12 years old enrolled in elementary, children 13-16 years old enrolled in high school, members 18 years old and over gainfully employed and working children 5-17 years old.
1.3.5 Household Survey on Domestic Visitors (HSDV)
n a survey aims to gather data on household information on domestic tourism that are vital to the effective and efficient development and implementation of tourism plans and programs.
n Specifically, it aims to:
(a) provide baseline data to measure the volume of domestic tourism;
(b) determine the profile and travel characteristics of domestic visitors;
(c) identify the travel patterns of the Filipino households; and,
(d) estimate the extent and economic contribution of domestic tourism in the country.
1.3.6 Functional Literacy, Education and Mass Media Survey (FLEMMS)
n a survey that seeks to gather information on the basic and functional literacy status, and the educational and skills qualification of the population.
n conducted in line with the government’s thrust in eradicating illiteracy and promoting education policies and programs in the country.
n Specifically, the survey aims to:
(a) estimate the proportion of the population who are functionally literate and to determine their socio-economic characteristics;
(b) determine the educational skills qualifications of the population in terms of formal and non-formal schooling; and,
(c) determine the mass media exposure of the basic and functionally literate population.
